â€‹ When I was 5 years old my mother left me at the mall and never came back. I spent 6 months alone in the mall surviving on leftover food from the concession stand and sleeping in one of the carriages on the carousel ride before anybody noticed me. Because I was afraid, I didn't tell anybody until one day while running away from something I bumped into the the man that would eventually adopt me. He helped me up and, asked was I ok. I answered no. He asked, what my name was? I said that I didn't know my name. He asked, where is your mom or dad? I said I don't know she left me here a long time ago. He said well the first thing we are going to do then is get you some food. After buying my food he took me to the security desk and told them what happened. Since they were unable to find my family I was placed in foster care. While in foster care I met a girl named Jasmine who had been there the longest. She told us how people would choose the kids that they wanted to adopt. She said that they would always pick a baby first, then a girl, and last a boy with the lighter boys being picked first and the darker boys being picked last or not at all. She said so if you want a home you need a tie because they always pick the boys with a tie on. So she got a tie and showed me and all the other boys how to tie it. And on the next visit from potential parents I wore a tie and to my surprise it was the guy from the mall. He said that he'd came back to check up on me and asked if I wanted to live with him. Not only did I get a home that day but so did the other 5 boys who wore a tie. So a tie literally saved my life.
